Adult Choir

Director:  Mr. Tommy Guidry

Leads the congregation during hymns, providing a variety of selections and harmony, music for Sunday Masses, Holy Days of Obligation and other celebrations, which adds to the solemnity of the celebration

Sings at special liturgies such as Midnight Mass for Christmas and Easter Vigil Mass and Tenebrae program

Sings at 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays except in months of July and August

bullet

Practices on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.

 
Children's Choir

Sings once a month at 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays and Christmas Eve Mass and First Communion Mass

Children ages 9-14 welcome to participate

Teen Music

Pastoral Care
 
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (to the Homebound)

Volunteers bring Communion to the homebound at their homes once a month on First Fridays

On a rotating basis, a member of the clergy accompanies the lay minister on a home visit

Nursing Home and Hospital Visitation

Each week on different days Extraordinary ministers of Communion bring Holy Communion to hospital patients and nursing home residents

Schedule is flexible depending on availability

Distribution of Holy Communion at Abbeville General Hospital is done on Mondays and Wednesdays

Distribution of Holy Communion at Nursing Homes is generally done on Tuesdays and Fridays

bullet

Pastoral care visitation at nursing homes and to homebound parishioners is available

 
Ministry to the Mentally and/or Physically Disabled

Hosts a retreat for mentally and/or physically disabled adults twice a year

Assists with sacramental preparation for disabled adults

 
Catholic Families in Action
Volunteer Contact:  Scott and Catherine Desormeaux
bulletGroup of St. Mary Magdalen families who have voluntarily gathered to make a difference in our parish and community through prayer and service.
bulletPrayer - small groups meet twice monthly for prayer and sharing Scripture
bulletService - each family participates in an apostolate serving the outreach and evangelical needs of the parish
bulletExamples of service - reaching out to the bereaved, visiting shut-ins and those in nursing homes, providing intercessory parish prayer line
 
 
St. Joseph Bereavement Society

Provides a meal to the family at the time of the funeral of a loved one

 
 
Christian Service Center

Director:  Mrs. Darla Castille

Provides assistance to the needy in the form of food, clothing and limited monetary payments for utilities, medicines and past due rent

Operates the Christian Service Center,  located at 701 Chevis Street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon

Accepts donations of clothing, furniture, food and monetary assistance

 
 
In Home Marriage Preparation
Volunteer Contact:  Mr. Vince Listi
bulletThis form of preparing engaged couples for Marriage is performed in the home of the training couple, usually every other week, for about 6 weeks.
bulletSeven topics are studied which include Family of Origins, Marriage Expectations, Communication, Sex & Sexuality, Making Moral Decisions, Sacrament of Matrimony, & Couple Spirituality.
bulletThe training couples are parishioners who have been specially trained for this ministry.

Offers a variety of parish programs that strengthen families by helping men and women live their vocation to marriage and parenthood in all its fullness

Motherhood Program - 10 sessions - meets twice monthly for 1 1/2 hours each - begins in September

Fatherhood Program - 8 sessions - begins in September

 

 

ORGANIZATIONS 

 
Ladies Altar Society

Weekly washing of purificators, corporals, towels, etc.

Every Thursday cleaning of sacred vessels, sacristy area, dusting of sanctuary furniture, changing altar linens as needed

Every Tuesday cleaning of the body of the church – pick up between pews; monthly dusting of pillars and window ledges

bullet

Every Monday cleaning in the chapel, dusting, changing altar linens; removing outdated materials from petitions board; as needed, pews are thoroughly cleaned and wiped

bullet

Seasonal displays for Advent, Christmas, Easter; weekly changing of devotional candles and replenishing of candle rack

bullet

Sewing or mending for priests or altar

 
Ushers Society

Group of men who pass the collection basket at each weekend Mass

Hand out bulletins at the end of each Mass

Men of Mary

Group of men who attend 6:30 a.m. Mass on Wednesday and pray the rosary after Mass before the Blessed Sacrament

CDA Court St. Mary Magdalen was instituted 80 years ago.

Monthly meetings are held from September through June on the second Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m. in the Ministries Building.

Membership is open to all Catholic women of the parish.
