I am happy to welcome you to this website for St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church! This church dates back 172 years when it was founded in 1842 by Pere “Abbe” Antoine Megret. In fact the town of Abbeville is named after him. There began a long line of clergy and religious who formed the bedrock of this great Catholic parish on the banks of the Vermilion Bayou. In 2024, Bishop Douglas Deshotel appointed me as the 19th Pastor of this parish and I am glad to be here!
As the pastor, allow me to say it is good that you are here! Whether you’re a lifelong parishioner, a new resident, or just a curious onlooker, it is good that you are here. I encourage you, like our patron saint did, to go boldly to Jesus with love knowing that he has offered you forgiveness of all your sins, no matter how great. Please feel welcome to attend Masses here, to participate in communal functions, and to inquire into what it means to go deeper in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We all face many challenges in this fallen world, but thanks be to God for the gift of his grace and the gift of his Church to give us that grace. Whether you remain a part of this parish or are just passing through for a time, I pray that this Church and community may be the instrument of many graces for you.
